Abigail Rist / hautecloth
Abigail Rist is a Detroit Based artist whose art work and design is truly combining found object and mixed media by pushing it to its furthest degree. Using a collection of materials concepts processes dreams and bits of debris. She creates wearable sculptures that stretch across mediums incorporating the natural world and focusing on sustainability and traditional fiber techniques. Her work has been featured across a variety of media including collaborations on photoshoots music videos film sets runway shows and gallery exibitions. By upcycling materials she is willing to expand her horizons and reach into the unknown potential of material beyond its original indented function. the themes of her work center around eco consciousness, whimsy, relationships both with family and the natural world, the lense of the discarded the remnants the scraps the bits of cloth and its meaning.
Abigail graduated with a BFA from the college for creative studies in crafts with a concentration in fiber and jewelry, She taught art and fashion design skills for over 10 years at the BBAC working with students of all age groups with a range of abilities. Abigail trained under Amelie Prescott for moschukma in New Orleans providing assistance and art instruction for children with the lense of trauma healing following hurricane Katrina.
Abigail is currently a part of CAVE Collective located in the Russel industrial complex. She is an inaugural member of Fiber club* located in SPREAD Art. Abigail is founding member and a co-host of a monthly literary and creative Salon series in collaboration with Scarab Club.
